Amid expectations of flagging iPhone sales and pressure on Apple to increase margins, it is expected that iPhone SE lovers will not be able to grab the cheaper series of a newer iPhone.
According to a report by Apple Insider, a candid analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, suggests that Apple is unlikely to introduce a newer version of the 5 SE. The 5 SE was a miniature version of the 6 series and was packed with power in an affordable cheap price. For countries like Pakistan, this was an advantage for those people who could not out rightly spend 80,000 on an iPhone 7 per say.
It is reported that Apple’s decision of prolonging the iphone 5SE life due to the intense pressure of increasing gross margins. On the other hand, Apple seems to be trying to reduce the cannibalization effect on the iPhone 7. In such a strategy, a company tries to reduce the reduction of sales of one product ( iPhone 7) due to the sale of another product ( SE series).
The iPhone SE model made its debut in March 2016, and many consumers would expect it to renew again in March 2017. However, Mr Kuo claims that it might be at the end of second quarter until it SE can be launched again. This helps us to speculate that it will be somewhere around the launch time of iPhone 7S, 8 or X – depending on what Apple wants to call it.
Kuo estimates the shipment volume to fall from 51.21 Million to about 40-50 Million for the current quarter. The weak demand in China due to fierce competition from companies like Samsung, Huawei, Google and Infinity can take the forecast down to 35-40 million units the in the 2Q17.
